Overview
Brunello Cucinelli founded his namesake company in 1978 in Solomeo, Umbria, after discovering the potential of dyeing cashmere in vibrant colours. Beginning with a small workshop, he built the company into a global luxury house known for finely crafted knitwear and relaxed tailoring. The brand’s collections for men and women emphasise neutral hues, natural materials and an elegant yet casual silhouette.
Cucinelli controls production through factories in Italy and distributes through boutiques worldwide and high‑end retailers. Beyond the business, he has invested heavily in restoring the medieval village of Solomeo, building a factory, theatre and philosophy school there.
Philosophy
Cucinelli articulates his corporate philosophy as ‘humanistic capitalism’—a system where profit and ethics co‑exist. Raised on a rural farm, he was inspired by his grandfather’s practice of sharing harvests and believes business should serve the community and the environment. He emphasises dignity in work: employees enjoy humane hours, harmonious workplaces and opportunities for cultural enrichment. The company upholds fair wages and invests in artisan training to preserve Italian craftsmanship.
Sustainability is integral; Cucinelli stresses harmony with nature and the responsible use of resources. Collections are designed for longevity rather than trends, blending luxurious fabrics like cashmere and linen with soft tailoring to create timeless garments.
