Overview
Gauchere is a Paris-based ready-to-wear house established in 2013 by German designer Marie-Christine Statz. Following her education at the Parsons School of Design and her experience at Narciso Rodriguez, Statz launched her own label to focus on a vision of modern, architectural minimalism. The brand has become a regular presence on the Paris calendar. By maintaining a high standard of material research and technical construction, the house offers a sophisticated visual language that appeals to an intellectually-driven audience seeking longevity.
The label works across ready-to-wear. The label occupies a specific space in the contemporary luxury market by offering a disciplined and understated aesthetic that prioritises the integrity of the garment over transient trends. The brand has remained visible within the fashion calendar and related retail networks. Its development has been shaped by recurring codes in cut, material or proportion. Across its core categories, the label has developed a recognisable identity rather than a broad, undifferentiated offer.
Philosophy
Architectural precision and the celebration of the 'raw' material serve as the primary guides for the house's creative worldview. The design language is built on a foundation of disciplined tailoring, where the volume and cut of the garment are the dominant design signals. Design decisions are frequently driven by a focus on the structural possibilities of high-quality fabrics, including heavy wools, crisp cottons, and technical synthetics.
Formal decisions are characterised by oversized silhouettes, clean lines, and a palette of neutral, monochromatic tones. There is a recurring emphasis on the 'unfinished' edge and the use of asymmetry to create a sense of movement and tension within a minimalist framework. The work often features subtle, functional details that reveal the logic of its construction, reflecting a vision of fashion as a tool for refined and efficient living. By prioritising the integrity of the form and the tactile experience of the fabric, the brand creates clothing that is intellectually stimulating and aesthetically clear.
