Overview
Karl Lagerfeld Paris is the North American regional brand created through the 2015 joint venture between Karl Lagerfeld Group B.V. and G-III Apparel Group. G-III paid $25 million for a 49 per cent interest in the venture and received rights covering specified consumer categories across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The brand was formed in 2015 and reached the retail market in Fall 2016, when its first advertising campaign introduced a dedicated product and price architecture for North American consumers.
The regional label was built around G-III’s manufacturing, wholesale and retail infrastructure. Its initial scope included women’s apparel, handbags and men’s outerwear, with later activity extending across additional accessories and licensed home categories. It operates through a separate e-commerce site and a company-operated retail network that includes outlet stores. Karl Lagerfeld Paris therefore functions as a distinct public-facing brand within the wider Karl Lagerfeld business, with its own merchandising cadence and consumer positioning.
G-III deepened its relationship with the global Karl Lagerfeld company through a separate 19 per cent investment in 2016 and acquired the remaining 81 per cent of the worldwide business on 2 June 2022. The acquisition brought the global and North American interests under the same ultimate owner. Karl Lagerfeld Paris continues as a recognisable regional label with separate merchandising, e-commerce and retail. Its role is commercial and geographic, translating the wider house codes into North American ready-to-wear, handbags, outerwear and related categories.
Philosophy
Karl Lagerfeld Paris condenses the wider house vocabulary into a North American accessible-fashion offer. Monochrome dressing, sharp jackets, crisp shirting, graphic hardware and logo-led accessories provide continuity with the global brand. The emphasis falls on recognisable pieces that can move easily through department stores, outlets and direct retail, with fashion identity carried by proportion, trim, signature marks and a controlled black-and-white palette.
The brand’s design structure is closely tied to its regional commercial remit. G-III established the label with rights in women’s apparel, handbags and men’s outerwear and built it through a large North American sourcing and distribution network. Product development has to work across broad assortments, seasonal deliveries and multiple retail formats. The label’s distinct pricing and merchandising give familiar Karl Lagerfeld codes a different scale and rhythm from the global European-facing collections.
Since G-III’s full acquisition of the global Karl Lagerfeld business in 2022, the regional label and the international brand share a single ultimate owner. Their public identities remain separate. Karl Lagerfeld Paris continues to serve the North American market through its own e-commerce and retail presence, giving the wider brand a dedicated commercial expression for that territory.
