Overview
Nicole Club for Men was announced in December 1984 as a separate menswear brand within NICOLE, not a later phase of Nicole Club. Inaugural chief designer Kazumi Sasaki established the Mode Constructor concept, bringing European-inflected design and exact Japanese pattern cutting into a youth market then dominated by American casual clothing.
Sasaki’s work joined accessible utility to authored detail: varsity and military references, lightweight cotton trousers, denim construction and a dog patch derived from his own pet. The early-1990s Workers line and a record-shaped Spring/Summer 1991 catalogue strengthened the brand’s independent identity. Later collections moved into more aggressive biker, cargo and Y2K territory through stretch denim, articulated knees, heavy hardware, distressing and multi-pocket outerwear.
The brand remains active under NICOLE in 2026 and still uses Mode Constructor as its public concept. No individual current designer is named. Rielabo supplies a more mature premium tier, while sports and casual categories extend the main menswear offer.
Philosophy
Mode Constructor describes the brand’s central method: fashion-led pattern work applied to everyday menswear. Sasaki’s foundation balanced European proportion with American workwear and military references, cutting familiar garments for the Japanese body and using small graphic devices to make corporate product visibly authored.
The late-1990s and early-2000s archive became materially harder. Polyurethane-blend denim enabled narrow and flared shapes; padded knees, reinforced panels, asymmetrical pockets, zips, mud washes and suede or leather surfaces pulled the line towards biker and utility subcultures. These garments established a vocabulary distinct from Monsieur Nicole’s mature tailoring.
Current product moderates those extremes through coordinated jackets, knitwear, stretch trousers and casual outerwear. Construction, mobility and a visibly engineered detail remain more consistent than any single historical style.
