About this collection
Maria’s (Non-)Gestures examined the Virgin Mary as both an image of idealised femininity and a figure placed inside ordinary social reality. Veils and religious references were combined with pinstriped suits, distorted collars and street graphics.
The runway returned AKIKOAOKI’s uniform research to a large physical setting, balancing devotional imagery with tailoring that appeared to melt, loosen or lose its prescribed posture.
