About this collection
AKIKOAOKI debuted through Tokyo New Age with a collection examining the discipline of girls’ school dress. Uniform structures, layered garments and intentionally unresolved construction translated Aoki’s experience of institutional conformity into clothing that appeared incomplete until assembled on the body.
The collection established the school uniform as a continuing source for the label’s later treatment of tailoring, femininity and social order.
