Balenciaga returned to haute couture on 7 July 2021, fifty-three years after Cristóbal Balenciaga closed the house. Presented in silence inside the restored salons at 10 Avenue George V, the 50th collection linked strict tailoring and sweeping gowns with denim, parkas, T-shirts and bathrobe archetypes executed at couture level. By continuing the founder’s numbering, Demna treated the long absence as an interruption in practice rather than a break in lineage.
