Fall 2022 replaced the previous season’s escapism with a small, darkened presentation shaped by Maxwell’s grandmother Louise Johnson and her experience of Alzheimer’s disease. Family photographs and home-video fragments introduced a collection built around memory and tactility: blanket shawls, crushed satin, cable knits, distressed denim, corsetry and jewellery-like objects gave familiar wardrobe forms a more intimate emotional charge.

The significance of the collection lies less in biography alone than in how that personal context changed the house’s design priorities. Comfort, surface, internal construction and repeated everyday garments moved to the foreground, anticipating the more systematic wardrobe renovation that Maxwell would articulate from 2023.
