About this collection
The Honey Ant was presented at Koojay Corroboree on Coogee Beach on 27 May 2022 during National Reconciliation Week. The collection centred First Nations women and matriarchal resilience, using Johnson’s couture and tailored silhouettes as a framework for commissioned cultural imagery and stories of nurture, continuity and community.
The work subsequently appeared within Country to Couture in Darwin, placing the collection inside one of Australia’s principal First Nations fashion platforms. The movement from a community-facing Sydney presentation to a national Indigenous fashion runway typified BULUUY MIRRII’s growing ability to hold cultural context and professional fashion presentation together.
