About this collection
Halston participated in the Grand Divertissement à Versailles on 28 November 1973, joining Anne Klein, Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta and Stephen Burrows in the American half of a benefit presentation opposite five French couture houses. Fashion, dance and song shared the Royal Opera stage, and the American section drew much of its force from movement, informal staging and a racially diverse cast.
Joe Eula created backdrops for the American presentation, Elsa Peretti appeared in Halston with her own jewellery and accessories, and Liza Minnelli opened and closed the American sequence in Halston. The event placed Halston’s fluid eveningwear and performance-minded image system inside one of the decade’s defining encounters between American ready-to-wear and French couture.
