About this collection
Halston presented the debut Halston Originals Fall 1972 ready-to-wear collection in New York on 23 May 1972. The named line formalised a wholesale wardrobe alongside the private salon, carrying his soft separates, fluid daywear and evening dressing into a wider distribution system. The collection introduced the Ultrasuede model 704 shirtwaist dress within that broader ready-to-wear offer.
Ultrasuede gave the shirtwaist a supple surface, durability and easier care, qualities that suited Halston’s interest in clothes that could move easily through daily life. The collection established a scalable expression of his American sportswear language and made the model 704 one of the house’s most durable design signatures.
