About this collection
Akouma was Ayissi’s first presentation on the official Paris Haute Couture Week calendar. Shown at Hôtel Le Marois on 23 January 2020, it established the house as an FHCM Guest House and made Ayissi the first designer from sub-Saharan Africa admitted to the programme. The collection brought woven African textiles, colour and controlled drape into a moment whose institutional importance extended well beyond a single season.
