About this collection
Miyené means appearance or the state of being seen. The collection examined African identity through hairstyles, printed portraiture and textile surface, working with Gabonese artist Boris Nzebo. Raffia, silk fringe and draped garments made hair and clothing part of the same social language, while the collaboration extended Ayissi’s practice from historical textile systems into a direct exchange with contemporary African art.
