About this collection

Juliette Hogan’s 2014 New Zealand Fashion Week collection connected the house’s textile practice to one of New Zealand modernism’s defining images. Working with Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, the label translated Colin McCahon’s French Bay into fabric, carrying the painting’s dark linear structure and coastal atmosphere into the collection.

The runway was accompanied by a live performance from Sunken Seas, giving the presentation a distinctly local art-and-music context. The collaboration made print authorship and cultural source material unusually explicit within Hogan’s work and remains one of the clearest examples of the label using an external artwork to reshape its textile vocabulary.
