JULIUS

JULIUS entered the formal fashion calendar with its Spring/Summer 2005 runway, presented at the Tokyo Collection in 2004. The show transformed Tatsuro Horikawa’s three-year-old multidisciplinary art project into a seasonal clothing practice, giving the label a recognised runway and wholesale framework while preserving the black, industrial and audio-visual language formed in Tokyo’s underground culture.

The collection belongs to the formative period in which JULIUS was consolidating engineered drape, military utility, leather and elongated proportion into a coherent wardrobe. Its importance lies less in a recovered seasonal title—the supplied research does not support one—than in the shift from project-based clothing to a recurring fashion system.
