THE OUTSIDER centred on Henry Darger’s private world and the contradiction between everyday isolation and an immense internal mythology. Darger’s Vivian Girls and landscapes entered bombers, shirts, knitwear and layered silhouettes through a permissioned archive project developed with the cooperation of Kiyoko Lerner.

The digital presentation intensified the collection’s collisions of childhood colour, violence, religious anxiety and sexual ambiguity. KIDILL treated Darger as a deceased source artist rather than an active collaborator, and the public record does not establish an uncontested sole rights holder for the reproduced work.
