About this collection
Matsuda presented its Fall 1984 ready-to-wear collection in New York on 30 April 1984, during the first phase of the label’s American expansion. The runway placed Mitsuhiro Matsuda’s international identity within the New York collections two years after the company established its local subsidiary and boutique.
The show belongs to the founder-led apparel period, when Matsuda carried structured tailoring, enlarged proportion and precise Japanese manufacture into the American market. It is the earliest collection in the surviving research with a secure runway format, exact date, city and authoritative contemporary archive.
