About this collection
Collection 1: False Heroes inaugurated Public School’s twice-yearly off-calendar system, combining menswear, womenswear, pre-spring and spring into one runway. The staging opened with masked models working at an assembly line before a cast in utilitarian outerwear, asymmetric layers, tailored sweats and oversized silhouettes moved through the space.
The clothes drew on 1990s New York appropriations of prep: enlarged rugby shirts, crested hoodies, stiff Oxford shirting, wide rave trousers and translucent floral banker stripes. A graffiti finale reading “we need leaders” connected the collection’s political language to the designers’ attempt to challenge the fashion calendar itself.
