Hollywood makes casting, autobiography and old studio fantasy inseparable from the clothes. The outdoor Palais runway gathers fashion students, faculty, team members and friends into a white satin army of long narrow skirts, soft hoods, chiffon, tulle, satin, denim and distressed boots. Owens uses Hollywood as a place of self-invention rather than celebrity glamour, drawing on pre-Code biblical epics and the idea of finding a community among outsiders. The collection matters because the scale and casting carry the argument as much as the garments do.
