About this collection
To All Hard Workers contrasted cultivated silkworms—unable to fly and consumed for silk—with wild silkworms that retained freedom but were treated as pests. Arakawa used the comparison to examine labour, conformity, sacrifice and social utility through crisp shirts and suits, cocoon-like knitwear and shirt dresses whose cuffs were joined.
The collection is the strongest fully described runway body in the recovered archive. Its title, Tokyo setting, concept, garment details and contemporary reception are all independently supported.
