Thom Browne

Thom Browne’s first couture collection expanded the house’s grey uniform through one-off construction, sculptural volume and prolonged narrative staging at the Palais Garnier. Maritime and station-like imagery, birds, bells and monumental silhouettes moved through an auditorium populated by thousands of cardboard spectators in grey suits. The presentation placed American tailoring inside the institutional frame of the Paris haute couture calendar without abandoning Browne’s habit of combining discipline with absurdity.
