Spring/Summer 2019 was staged beneath the Boulevard Périphérique around a long white Georgian wedding table. Demna framed the collection through his and Guram Gvasalia’s childhood in Georgia, the war in Abkhazia and the family’s displacement, bringing Georgian street-cast participants to Paris and placing language, flags and other regional references directly into the clothes.

The runway joined Vetements’ established oversized and reconstructed vocabulary to a more explicit autobiographical account. Political symbols, prison-tattoo imagery and Georgian and Russian text gave the collection a specific historical charge, turning family memory and forced displacement into the central narrative of the show.
