Buffalo Girls, also known as Nostalgia of Mud, was presented in London in March 1982 and also travelled to Paris. Westwood and McLaren pushed the early World’s End vocabulary through layered skirts, oversized silhouettes, rough textures and references gathered from street dress and cultures beyond the conventional European fashion canon.

The collection belongs to the short, intense sequence in which the pair turned the King’s Road practice into an international runway project. Its London and Paris presentation history also marked a widening audience for the work before their partnership began to fracture.
