Vivienne Westwood

Café Society Spring/Summer 1994 was presented at the Grand Hotel in Paris on 13 October 1993. Westwood and Kronthaler pushed the house’s historical proportions into an increasingly theatrical Paris register, using corsetry, volume and references to aristocratic and salon dress.

The show belongs to the early Gold Label period when Paris staging, historical dress and shared design authorship were becoming central to the house’s international identity. Its scale and construction make it one of the clearest expressions of Westwood’s mature historicist language.
