Vivienne Westwood

Cut and Slash was Westwood’s first complete stand-alone menswear collection, presented for Pitti Uomo at Villa Gamberaia near Florence in 1990. It transferred her historical cutting, tailoring and manipulated proportion into a dedicated menswear context several years before the Vivienne Westwood Man label became a permanent Milan division.

The collection clarifies the difference between Westwood designing menswear and the later launch of a named menswear line. Its significance comes from establishing a complete male wardrobe as an independent runway proposition within the developing house.
