About this collection
Punkature Spring/Summer 1983 was launched in autumn 1982 and presented at Pillar Hall in London during the period when Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren’s partnership was beginning to break apart. The collection mixed rough, cut-up surfaces with sportswear and street references, carrying punk energy into a looser seasonal fashion language.
For Westwood, the show also coincided with a growing sense of independent design authorship. It stands near the end of the joint Westwood–McLaren runway sequence and immediately precedes Witches, their final official collection together.
