Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO
Overview
Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO is Tokyo’s main biannual runway platform and the central public stage for Japan’s next-season collections. Hosted by the Japan Fashion Week Organization, it brings together runway shows, presentations, exhibitions and related events across Shibuya Hikarie and other venues in the city. In its current form it carries Rakuten title sponsorship, but its role is larger than a sponsor name: it is the main institutional framework through which Tokyo fashion presents itself each season.
What distinguishes Tokyo is the mix of established Japanese labels, newer designers and a fashion culture shaped as much by experimentation and street influence as by classic luxury signals. The week is especially associated with avant-garde and boundary-pushing design, while also functioning as a gateway through which Japanese brands gain broader international visibility. Rather than mirroring Paris or Milan directly, it projects a distinctly Tokyo fashion identity within the wider seasonal calendar.
