Overview
A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE is the contemporary continuation of the A-POC inquiry, launched in 2021 to bring the system into a new phase of research, product design and collaboration. It develops the idea of clothing from continuous cloth through engineering, material experimentation and team authorship, treating the garment less as a fixed seasonal object than as a proposition that can be tested, adapted and reworked.
The brand’s world is deliberately porous. Designers, engineers, artists, technologists and outside partners enter the process, allowing the A-POC method to move through new materials, functions and industrial contexts. Within the wider Issey Miyake universe, A-POC ABLE is where the house’s research impulse becomes most openly collaborative: a laboratory with commercial form, and a product system still visibly thinking.
Philosophy
A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE extends the original A-POC principle through dialogue: between cloth and body, designer and wearer, studio and industry. Its philosophy rests on the idea that a garment can carry more than one possible life, shaped by engineering, material choice, use and intervention. The cloth is not inert matter waiting to be styled; it is a field of decisions, with design embedded before the final object fully appears.
That makes A-POC ABLE one of the house’s clearest arguments for fashion as research rather than spectacle. Its projects and products are not organised around runway drama so much as problem-solving, collaboration and process made visible. The result is a rarefied kind of practicality: experimental, precise and still anchored in Miyake’s old insistence that design must answer to life.

A-POC ABLE launched in March 2021 as a current commercial-research brand. It develops A-POC’s manufacturing logic, but it is not simply a relaunch of the earlier A-POC system.
