Overview
IM MEN is a contemporary menswear brand from Miyake Design Studio, launched in 2021 as a fresh investigation into clothing, structure and use. It belongs to the wider Issey Miyake universe, but its character is sharper and more engineered than a conventional menswear revival: garments are treated as moving constructions, shaped by material research, pattern intelligence and the practical behaviour of the body.
The line sits in conversation with ISSEY MIYAKE MEN, but it is not a simple continuation of that earlier history. IM MEN opens a newer chapter in Miyake menswear, one closer to research culture, team authorship and product-led experimentation. Its appeal lies in that precise tension: clothing that feels technical without becoming sterile, and useful without surrendering its quiet sense of invention.
Philosophy
IM MEN takes Miyake’s idea of “A Piece of Cloth” into contemporary menswear with a particular interest in engineering, construction and movement. The line treats a garment as something to be solved as much as styled: a structure that must fold, open, fall, hold shape and respond intelligently to the body. Its philosophy is less concerned with the inherited authority of menswear than with what menswear can become when material logic is allowed to lead.
That gives IM MEN a different temperature from the earlier ISSEY MIYAKE MEN. Where the historical line softened and recalibrated masculine dress, IM MEN approaches it through research, precision and collective studio thinking. The result is menswear as a working system: disciplined, tactile and quietly experimental, with the Miyake method brought forward rather than nostalgically restored.

Creative timeline
IM MEN launched in March 2021 as the current Miyake menswear entity. Its origin story points to the legacy of im product and to team-based material and product development, not to a confirmed legal rename of ISSEY MIYAKE MEN.
