
Overview
StyleLab was Diesel’s premium experimental line, developed during Wilbert Das’s creative direction and launched publicly in London on 29 September 1998 for Spring 1999. It was conceived as a separate fashion system with its own product positioning, campaign language and distribution.
The line extended Diesel’s denim and casualwear expertise into more directional construction, technical fabrics and runway presentation. Robert Lunardon managed categories within the project, while Das held wider creative authority; surviving evidence does not reduce the collections to one designer.
StyleLab showed in London and later New York, with a documented runway sequence through Spring/Summer 2004. The exact final season and closure date remain unresolved, so the line is treated as historical and inactive.
Philosophy
StyleLab used the scale and industrial knowledge of Diesel as a base for smaller, more experimental fashion propositions. Denim could sit beside technical materials, sharper tailoring and conceptual show environments without being the line’s sole organising fabric.
Its separation from the mainline was operational as well as aesthetic. Distinct campaigns, distribution and production arrangements protected an exploratory role while placing the work inside Diesel’s broader brand architecture.
