Overview
WINDOWSEN is an independent Chinese fashion label founded by Sensen Lii in 2019. Its public emergence began with Lii’s VFiles runway appearance in New York in September 2018, followed by the formal launch of a brand operating between Shanghai and Paris. The name combines the Windows operating system with the designer’s given name, framing the label as a portal into a self-contained world shaped by early digital interfaces, science fiction, gaming and performance culture.
The label brings demi-couture construction into contact with technical sportswear. Voluminous organza, crystal surfaces and body-altering footwear appear alongside hoodies, racing jackets, bodysuits and modular ready-to-wear. The same silhouettes move between runway, music performance and retail, with custom stagewear forming an important parallel practice for musicians and performers.
WINDOWSEN established its early runway identity in Shanghai before expanding onto the Paris womenswear calendar from 2023. Collaborations with Nike, Beats and Preciosa have extended the label into footwear, technology and specialised embellishment. Its 2025 Nike Air Max Muse project brought the brand’s alien iconography and inclusive scale of footwear to a wider commercial release while the mainline retained its genderless, performance-led direction.
Philosophy
Sensen Lii treats clothing as an interface for altering the body. Garments enlarge shoulders, extend limbs and replace familiar anatomy with alien, robotic or bestial forms. Masks, prosthetic footwear and crystal-covered surfaces turn the wearer into a character whose gender and species remain deliberately unstable.
The construction often begins with a clash between couture volume and athletic function. Dense organza and tulle are rolled, trimmed and layered into large sculptural forms, while drawstrings, stretch panels, racing details and technical closures keep the clothes connected to movement. The resulting silhouettes carry the visual force of stage costume without abandoning the mechanics of sportswear.
WINDOWSEN’s gender position is embedded in fit and casting rather than treated as a separate message. Corsets, bodysuits, skirts and high heels are developed across bodies, with extended footwear sizing and mixed casting used to remove assumptions about who may wear a particular form. Chinese mythology, ballroom culture and early digital nostalgia enter the work as active material, producing a fashion world that is theatrical, synthetic and sharply legible.

Button TextWINDOWSEN expanded its runway activity to Paris and developed interconnected collection narratives around virtual romance, rebellion and digital transformation. Major Nike and Beats projects moved the label’s imagery into commercial footwear and technology without replacing its semi-couture research.
Lii consolidated the label in Shanghai, using the city’s production network and fashion-week platform to expand the WINDOWSEN universe. Barbie with the Chinese Zodiac, Monster Heart and the MX Ridiculous project fixed the label’s combination of demi-couture, sportswear, ballroom casting and alien narrative.
After presenting the project through VFiles in September 2018, Sensen Lii formalised WINDOWSEN as an independent brand in 2019. The early work established its genderless casting, digital colour, technical sportswear and body-altering semi-couture.
WINDOWSEN product and practice structure
WINDOWSEN operates through connected runway, retail and performance streams rather than conventional diffusion lines.
Fashion divisions
- WINDOWSEN mainline
- Ready-to-wear and runway collections
- The mainline translates the label’s alien forms into technical tops, hoodies, jackets, trousers, skirts, bodysuits and accessories produced for international retail.
- Semi-couture
- Hand-built research and showpieces
- Labour-intensive organza, tulle and crystal garments function as the label’s experimental core. These pieces are produced in very limited quantities and should not be described as official haute couture.
- Custom performance wear
- Stage and red-carpet commissions
- Custom garments are engineered for performers, combining extreme silhouette with movement, rapid changes and the visual scale required for concerts, videos and major public appearances.
- Footwear and accessories
- Platforms, boots, bags and body-altering objects
- Footwear is developed through custom lasts and three-dimensional modelling, including extended high-heel sizing and exaggerated forms that alter the wearer’s height and anatomy.
WINDOWSEN collaborations
The label’s collaborations extend its performance language into materials, sport and consumer technology.

- Performance concept and footwear collaboration
- The relationship began with the 2020 Move to Zero concept project in Shanghai and developed into the commercial Air Max Muse x WINDOWSEN release in November 2025.
- Beats by Dre
- Technology and crystal embellishment
- For Autumn/Winter 2024, Beats Studio Pro headphones were covered with hand-mounted lead-free crystals in five gradient colourways and presented as part of the KillAngels collection.
- Preciosa
- Crystal development
- Preciosa components are used across semi-couture garments, footwear and custom projects, including the dense crystal surfaces that became central to the Monster Heart collection.
- Rui Ho
- Original music
- The producer created the Horror Pop Barbie soundtrack for the Barbie with the Chinese Zodiac presentation, linking the collection to electronic music and ballroom culture.
