About this collection
Area’s Fall 2023 runway traced a cycle from prehistoric survival to luxury excess. Fur-printed denim treated pelts as trompe-l’œil product, while low-slung jeans, enlarged tailoring and torn jersey carried sculpted gold bones and resin embellishment as traces of imagined attacks.
The combined ready-to-wear and couture structure allowed the same research to move between accessible denim and fully embroidered gowns. Vionnet-inspired draping, custom jewellery and crystal-covered dresses gave the collection its ceremonial scale, while humour kept the bone imagery from settling into costume.
