About this collection
Nicholas Aburn’s first Area collection returned the label to New York Fashion Week after one season away. He approached the house through the social contrasts of its nightclub namesake, placing slim sweats, cargo trousers and altered uniforms beside crystals, jewellery-like drawstrings and architectural evening dresses.
Denim remained a structural category through trompe-l’œil layered jorts, slashed jeans, satin and crystal linings, and a bow skirt constructed from tied trouser legs. Basketball jerseys became sequined dresses, a satin hoodie accompanied a long evening skirt, and oversized tinsel and confetti gowns closed the show. The debut preserved Area’s appetite for spectacle while giving it a tougher sportswear base.
