About this collection
Sailing was Dries Van Noten’s first collection under his own name, presented at the British Designer Show in London in March 1986. The menswear used linen, cotton and light wool within a sober yachting-inflected wardrobe of jackets and classically proportioned separates.
Orders from international retailers gave the new Antwerp label immediate commercial footing. The collection belongs to the Antwerp Six’s London breakthrough while remaining distinct as the foundation of Van Noten’s own company.
