About this collection
Martin Margiela’s Hermès debut used a pared-back wardrobe of vareuse tunics, short-sleeved cashmere, adjustable outerwear and flat shoes. Women of different ages and professions modelled clothes built for movement and repeated wear.
The apparent conservatism concealed modular construction and long development. The collection set the terms for twelve seasons in which material, comfort and discretion replaced designer spectacle.
