ISAMU KATAYAMA BACKLASH

BACKLASH NIGHT II DECADES celebrated the twentieth anniversary of ISAMU KATAYAMA BACKLASH at Ebisu The Garden Hall in Tokyo on 24 October 2019. After two decades shaped mainly by exhibitions, order systems and direct product presentation, the event brought archival and new garments into the brand’s first domestic runway.

The show condensed Katayama’s established material language into a retrospective sequence of garment-dyed leather, riders silhouettes, distressed surfaces and pieces drawn from across the label’s history. Seen together, the garments traced the continuity of BACKLASH’s leather practice from its early technical experiments to the work being produced at the close of its first twenty years.
