JUNYA WATANABE

Autumn/Winter 2024 treats clothing as personal public art, using abstract expressionist sculptural forms to turn the body into a moving exhibition space. Surfaces and volumes do not simply decorate; they create a physical presence around the wearer. The collection sits close to Watanabe’s recent garment-object work, but its language feels more painterly and gestural, with abstraction pushed into wearable form. It explores how clothes can carry the energy of art practice while remaining tied to cut, balance and bodily movement.
