JUNYA WATANABE

Spring/Summer 2023 returned Junya Watanabe womenswear to a live Paris runway with punk rock, New Romantic references and mohawk silhouettes. The collection channels music culture through shape, hair, attitude and styling rather than nostalgia alone. Mohawks give the upper body a vertical charge, while punk and New Romantic codes sharpen the relationship between subculture and construction. After the pandemic-era Tokyo and digital presentations, the show reasserts Watanabe’s womenswear as a live, physical encounter with volume, rhythm, subcultural memory and runway presence.
