About this collection

Monse’s first runway collection began with one of the most ordinary pieces in a New York wardrobe: the men’s button-down shirt. Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia pulled shirting away from its usual axis through off-shoulder cuts, wrapping, knotting and elongated proportions, then carried the same method into pinstripes, silk and evening dressing.

The debut established the constructional premise that would remain central to the label: recognisable garments are kept legible while their seams, proportions and social codes are rearranged around the body. Presented at the Norwood Club only months after the founders left Oscar de la Renta, the show gave Monse an identity distinct from their previous house from its first public appearance.
