About this collection

Priya Ahluwalia opened Mulberry’s fiftieth-anniversary guest series by rebuilding the Portobello tote through her Nigerian and Indian heritage and research into Afro-Caribbean hair. Repurposed leather and fabric were cut into wave-like patchwork seams, while embroidered Afro combs and protest-derived symbols gave the Somerset-made bags a distinct graphic language.

The release was carried by Parts of Me, a film directed by Akinola Davies Jr., making the project a notable pandemic-era digital presentation rather than an ordinary product drop. The film connected the material economy of reuse to family, hair, memory and cultural identity while the bags remained a bounded collaboration outside the main studio authorship.
