About this collection
DORÉ expanded Paris Jade Burrows's couture practice to 50 looks at Mothership Studios in Marrickville. Taking Gustave Doré's illustrations for Inferno, Paradise Lost and Edgar Allan Poe as its visual field, the collection combined fine corsetry and delicate fabrics with hard geometric silhouettes, grime, religious imagery and simulated violence.
Directed by Samuel Lucas Allen, the presentation replaced the conventional runway line with a circular performance in which models and actors drifted, lurked and convulsed through the space. The staging turned the audience's attention from isolated outfits to repetition, dread and bodily behaviour, ending without a triumphal finale. The clothes operated as armour for those states: ornate and fragile in surface, but severe in proportion and construction.
