Overview
Paris Jade Burrows is a Sydney fashion label founded by designer and performance-maker Paris Jade Burrows after her graduation from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in late 2023. Burrows brought the methods of costume, scenography and theatrical research into an independent made-to-order atelier, developing garments through historical dress, performance and intensive surface treatment rather than a conventional wholesale calendar. The label entered public fashion with IT'S REAL IF IT BLEEDS in May 2025, a 30-look couture presentation staged at St Barnabas' Church in Ultimo.
The practice expanded quickly without abandoning its small-scale production model. The Void, introduced in late 2025, established a made-to-order ready-to-wear line that translated the house's severe historical silhouettes into a tighter black-and-cream wardrobe, while DORÉ in May 2026 returned to large-scale couture with a 50-look performance at Mothership Studios. Across both lines, garments are cut, dyed and constructed in Sydney, with direct client fittings, custom orders and editorial loans forming the commercial structure around Burrows's theatrical collection-making.
Philosophy
Burrows treats clothing as part of a larger dramatic environment. Her collections begin with characters, historical images and political or literary narratives, then move through corsetry, severe tailoring, exposed internal structures and scenic finishes that make garments appear burnt, buried, bloodied or eroded. Victorian and early twentieth-century silhouettes recur not as period reproduction but as charged structures: horsehair canvas, braiding, tails, bustles and restrictive lines are displaced, distressed or made deliberately unstable.
The atelier model is equally integral to the design language. Paris Jade Burrows works on a made-to-order, zero-waste basis, cutting and hand-finishing garments in small quantities rather than building speculative stock. Couture retains the label's most elaborate construction and custom fitting, while ready-to-wear reduces the visual extremity without changing the intimate method of production. This closeness between maker, garment and wearer gives the work its particular tension: theatrical in image and presentation, but grounded in the physical demands of fitting, dyeing, construction and repeated handling.
