Barbara Croce

Barbara Croce is an Italian fashion designer whose career has included work inside major European and American fashion houses. Before Vionnet she developed experience across brands including Prada, Miu Miu, Gucci and Ralph Lauren, building a background in luxury ready-to-wear, product development and the demands of large design studios.

In October 2011 Barbara and her twin sister Lucia Croce were appointed Co-Creative Directors of Vionnet following Rodolfo Paglialunga’s departure. Their debut was Pre-Fall 2012, followed by Fall/Winter 2012–13 and Resort 2013. Vogue identified Resort 2013 as their third collection, giving the short tenure a clear completed sequence.

The Croce sisters left Vionnet in August 2012. Spring/Summer 2013 was subsequently completed by the house’s in-house team under Goga Ashkenazi’s emerging creative direction, so it falls outside their collection authorship. Barbara Croce’s Vionnet period remains a concise chapter in a wider studio career defined by experience across established international houses.

Barbara Croce’s Vionnet work was developed jointly with Lucia Croce and should be read as shared authorship. Their three collections placed the house’s fluid heritage inside a direct day-to-evening wardrobe, using trousers, tunics, dresses and outerwear with a lighter, less ceremonial attitude.

Fabric supplied much of the movement. Hammered satin, georgette and other fluid materials supported wide trousers, asymmetric tops and draped dresses, while fur and firmer outerwear added weight. Geometric cuts and clean surfaces kept the reference to Vionnet visible without turning the collection into historical reconstruction.

The pair’s studio backgrounds also brought a pragmatic attention to separates and commercial wardrobe building. At Vionnet this meant treating drape as one element among tailoring, knitwear and daywear, keeping the house codes present across garments designed to function together as a collection.
