Introduction
Ben Stubbington is a British menswear designer and creative director raised on the south coast of England. He graduated from the University of Brighton in 2000 in fashion design and business studies, with print as a minor, after formative work around Griffin, Copperwheat-Blundell and John Rocha. His early New York career included American Eagle, Banana Republic, Calvin Klein menswear and Rogan-Loomstate.
Stubbington joined Theory around 2008 and spent eight years shaping its menswear. He developed the category through lightweight tailoring, technical fabrics, outerwear and a restrained urban uniform, becoming head of menswear and, by 2015, co-creative director alongside Lisa Kulson while each retained category responsibility. He left in 2016 to become senior vice president of men’s design at Lululemon.
At Lululemon, Stubbington led men’s design and the experimental Lab line through a period of major category growth. In 2024 he joined Arc’teryx as creative director of Veilance and a member of the wider leadership team, extending his interest in precise clothing, performance materials and understated systems into a more explicitly technical environment.
Design ethos
Stubbington’s work is built around function, versatility and a minimal visual field. Tailoring, sportswear and outerwear are treated as neighbouring parts of one wardrobe, with stretch, weight, weather resistance and movement shaping the garment alongside proportion and line.
He repeatedly frames design around the wearer’s own character. At Theory, Lululemon and Veilance, this has produced clothes with controlled detail, quiet technicality and a strong sense of purpose, supported by his parallel practice in fine art and music.

2010
Ben Stubbington led Theory menswear for about five years by February 2015 and remained the category head through the immediate post-Theyskens transition. His earlier menswear leadership preceded his promotion into the brand’s co-creative structure.
