Introduction
David Koma is a Georgian-born, London-based designer born in Tbilisi in 1985. He founded his own label and later led Mugler, building a career identified with sharpened glamour, sculptural construction and a highly controlled image of the dressed body, first in London and then within a Paris house.
He matters in contemporary fashion for bringing that language to both an independent brand and a historic French label. In each setting, his work has been associated with precision, nightlife intensity and a distinctly body-conscious form of luxury.
Design ethos
Koma’s work is built around the outline of the body. Cut, contour and exposed structure are pushed forward through geometric lines, narrow silhouettes and embellishment that often reads as part of the construction rather than separate decoration. Dresses and tailoring alike are used to define a sharpened physical presence.
Crystal, metal and leather details introduce edge and shine, but the collections remain anchored by discipline, with glamour coming from exact placement and sculptural control rather than softness. Even when the surface is ornate, the line stays strict and the body remains the organising point.
