Introduction
Deanna Fanning is an Australian fashion designer and co-creative director of Kiko Kostadinov womenswear. She joined the label with her twin sister Laura Fanning as the women’s line took shape in 2018, bringing a separate womenswear authorship into a brand that had begun as a menswear project under Kiko Kostadinov.
Her role spans the women’s runway collections and the studio’s wider collaborative work, including ASICS Novalis and womenswear-linked Levi’s projects. Within the house, Deanna Fanning is part of the authorship that defines Kiko Kostadinov womenswear as its own division: narrative-led, colour-sensitive, technically worked and distinct from the numbered menswear sequence.
Design ethos
Fanning’s work with Laura treats womenswear as a site for narrative construction and material experimentation. The collections bring together bold colour, knit structures, historical craft, body-framing panels and references drawn from art, cinema, literature and Australian cultural memory. The result is often sweet in surface but more unsettled in construction and mood.
Her design ethos is especially visible in the line’s approach to proportion and texture. Garments can appear delicate, bright or nostalgic, then shift through technical seams, contorted panels, hybrid footwear and unexpected styling. This gives Kiko Kostadinov womenswear its own authorship inside the brand, while still sharing the studio’s interest in systems, fabrication and controlled distortion.
