Introduction
Deepti Tania Barth is a German-Argentinian menswear designer and the founder of the Berlin label DEEPTI. She studied at Camberwell College of Arts and Middlesex University before completing an MA in menswear at Central Saint Martins in 2005. Her early training combined tailoring with placements at Vivienne Westwood, Boudicca and Carol Christian Poell.
From 2005 to 2012, Barth worked in Poell’s Milan studio as a menswear and womenswear designer, while also producing photography and video connected to the studio’s work. She moved to Berlin in 2012, established her own studio the following year and launched DEEPTI in Paris in early 2014. Her independent practice centres on exact menswear forms, specialist Italian production and materials designed to change through oxidation, wear, pressure and light.
Design ethos
Barth begins with the material conditions of clothing: how a fibre reflects light, how silver oxidises, how leather compresses, how a seam carries strain and how a treated surface changes with use. Silver-coated yarns, reflective textiles, vulcanised fabrics, dense hides, felted wool and linked metal are developed as structural components, not as applied spectacle.
Her silhouettes remain controlled. Tailoring and familiar menswear categories keep experimental processes legible, so the cut of a jacket or the balance of a trouser can remain calm while the surface ages, fractures or catches light. The work combines craft and industrial methods without turning either into nostalgia.
Made-to-order production and selective re-editions give the practice a longer rhythm than a conventional retail season. Earlier pieces can return through the studio or a stockist project, while the design language remains focused on material continuity, limited production and the physical life of the garment.
