Dominique Morlotti

Dominique Morlotti was the category-specific artistic director of Pierre Balmain menswear from 1979 to 1983, according to his own professional biography. The role overlaps Pierre Balmain’s final years and the first post-founder season, but did not extend to women’s haute couture.

Dominique Morlotti was a fashion designer who held two parallel Lanvin remits on different calendars. He directed women’s ready-to-wear from 1992 to 1995 and menswear from 1992 until the 2001 transition.

His appointment followed the end of Lanvin’s couture programme and therefore belongs to ready-to-wear and menswear rather than haute couture. Women’s authority passed to Ocimar Versolato in 1995, while Morlotti continued men’s collections until a departure announced in November 2000 and a final delivery tail in 2001.

Morlotti’s Lanvin work has to be read category by category. Women’s and men’s collections shared an institutional author but developed through separate show calendars, production systems and end dates.

The surviving record supports a controlled ready-to-wear vocabulary rather than a single house manifesto. Tailoring and commercial wardrobe structure mattered more than the couture spectacle that had just ended.

The surviving research establishes delegated menswear authority rather than a complete collection chronology. Exact presentations, manufacturing structure and the transition after 1983 remain unresolved.
