Introduction
Fabio Zambernardi is an Italian design director whose four-decade career at Prada provided the clearest documented senior design authority below Miuccia Prada. He began collaborating with the company in 1981, became Shoe Design Director in 1997, Design Fashion Coordinator in 1999 and Group Design Director in November 2002.
His remit extended across Prada and Miu Miu, coordinating collection concepts, product coherence, brand image and strategic communication. A documented 2004 workroom account places him beside Miuccia Prada in decisions about fabrics, heels, proportions and fittings, working with assistant designers, seamstresses, models and technicians.
Prada publicly described Zambernardi as Prada and Miu Miu Design Director in 2017. His reported departure after the Spring/Summer 2024 shows in 2023 ended a long period of cross-brand continuity, although the exact contractual date and successor structure remain unresolved.
Design ethos
Zambernardi’s work linked concept to execution across footwear, clothing, accessories and image. His role was less a separate public signature than the maintenance of coherence: translating broad ideas into materials, proportions, prototypes and decisions that could hold across a large product system.
