Introduction
Fumika Hayashi is a Japanese fashion designer born in 1995 and the founder of Fumiku. She studied at the Vantan Design Institute in Tokyo, where her training combined garment construction with fabric procurement, production scheduling and the business management required to run an independent label.
While still a student, Hayashi entered the fifth Asia Fashion Collection and won its Grand Prix. The award supported a Fall/Winter 2018 presentation during New York Fashion Week, which served as Fumiku’s public debut. She graduated from Vantan in 2018 and established the brand’s continuing Tokyo operation that year.
Hayashi subsequently presented Fumiku on the Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo schedule for Spring/Summer 2019, before developing the label through seasonal lookbooks, boutique retail and pop-up events. She remains its sole designer and creative director.
Design ethos
Hayashi describes Fumiku as expressing a world between reality and fantasy. Her collections begin with recognisable daily garments, then alter their emotional register through transparency, floral surfaces, loose layering and fabrics that respond visibly to air and movement.
She often pairs delicate materials with athletic or utilitarian shapes. Tulle and pleats sit over active shorts, small florals appear on sporty jackets and soft dresses are interrupted by casual separates. This keeps femininity unstable, neither conventionally fragile nor deliberately severe.
Construction follows the same logic through asymmetry, misaligned fastenings and seam lines that avoid rigid control. Hayashi uses these slight disturbances to create psychological atmosphere while preserving the practical scale and wearability of an independent ready-to-wear label.

Career history
2018
Fumiku entered the Amazon Fashion Week Tokyo schedule with Lucid Dream for Spring/Summer 2019. The solo runway translated the brand’s reality-and-fantasy proposition into a complete presentation of layered nylon, floating pleats, activewear references and deliberately unsettled styling.
2018
Hayashi won the fifth Asia Fashion Collection Grand Prix while still a Vantan student. The incubator programme, organised by Vantan and PARCO, provided the business support and international runway opportunity that enabled Fumiku’s public launch in New York.
2018
Fumika Hayashi founded Fumiku in Tokyo in 2018 after completing her studies at the Vantan Design Institute. She established the label around a womenswear practice that places soft layering and familiar casual forms between everyday reality and imagined atmosphere.
